GODNESS TO EVIL

“wala tastawil hasantoo walassaiatoo id fa billati hia ahsanoo faizzal zi bainaka wa bainahoo adawatun ka annahoo waliyun hameem” (suru: hameem as sajda, part xxiv, s. xli-34, the illustrious quran)Q
Nor can goodness and evil be equal. Repel (evil) with what is better; Then will he between whom and thee was hatered become as it were they friend and intimate.
This is the revelation from Allah, Most Gracious and Most Merciful.
This was revealed to Prophet Muhammad (P.B.U.H). Though these revelations came when Prophet Muhammad (P.B.U.H.) was facing the grave atrocities of the people of Mecca and among these people were his close relatives and friends. These people were so adamant that they were not even ready to listen to ALLAH’S message but also involved themselves in false propaganda against Prophet Muhammad (P.B.U.H.) and ALLAH’S revelations. This was the time when all the non-believers (MUSHRIKEEN) untidily stood against Prophet Muhammad (P.B.U.H.) they prepared a team of youths who were always ready to raise huge noises whenever and whatever Prophet Muhammad (P.B.U.H.) tried to preach the message of ALLAH, message of Islam. The purpose was to create an atmosphere where Prophet’s (P.B.U.H.) voice becomes inaudible so that he could not carry out his mission of spreading the message of ALLAH. Actually they did so, because deep in their hearts, they were afraid and knew very well their inability to oppose the message of ALLAH logically or reasonably. The only logic and the only reason they had was that they could not betray the religion of their forefathers irrespective of the message and its worth. During this period of his stay at Mecca, ALLAH sent this command to face the ongoing onslaught of the non-believers (MUSHRIKEEN).
Out wardly there, appear two motives of this revelation. Firstly, to tell Prophet Muhammad (P.B.U.H.) and his ummat that evil is bound to be defeated and goodness is destined to emerge victorious. Secondly goodness is the only weapon, which can defeat evil and win the hearts of your enemies.
As far as the first motives is concerned ALLAH wanted to assure prophet Muhammad (P.B.U.H) AND HIS Umaat that the huge size of the evil should not make them worry and neither the telescopic size of goodness should be causes of concern for them because however the big evil is and however the small the goodness is it is but sure that evil is bound to be defeated and the hands of goodness. People practicing the evil known very Well in the hearts that evil in it self is weak. When evil and goodness come face to face with each other is the distined that goodness wills emarage victorious. People would realize one day that goodness in their real friend, protector and helper while evil represent falsehood and is the real enemy of humanity.
The second motive is that the goodness is the only way of winning the hearts of your enemies. One can win support of his enemies through force and evil designs but it would be short lived, conditions and with suspicion in mind but if you offer goodness to your enemies then they will not only support you but also develop intimacy, love and affection for you.
Pardoning your enemy for his evils is a good deed, if you help your enemy in need then it would be an act of very high quality and you will yourself see the result of it.
Though it is difficult to practice because the evil (Iblees) would not take defeat easily and would oppose it. Superficial words like ago prestige and defeat would at once strike one’s mind, but any human being who can over come these feelings is bound to become great and would taste the everlasting victory.
The life of Prophet Muhammad (P.B.U.H.) is a living example of Islam as through him ALLAH projected every aspect of Islam in practical manner. Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon him) practiced Islamic way of life to defeat the evil and there are various examples in this context. The accord of Hudaibiya (Suleh Hudaibiya) and incident of Ta’if are prominent. In accord of Hudaibiya Prophet Muhammad (P.B.U.H.) accepted all the conditions of the non-believers of Mecca (MUSHRIKEEN-MECCA).
It is a tragedy that present Muslim Ummah has lost faith in goodness, in teachings of Islam and in following the life of Prophet Muhammad (P.B.U.H.).
Evil has so badly over powered the Muslims that they cannot see any thing except evil. Today, all the evils have become distinctive in Muslim Ummah. By taking birth in a so called Muslim family they think that they have served the whole purpose of Islam.
Muslims were supposed to be the guide and the torchbearers of the society the representatives of peace and harmony in the present world.
The Muslims must defeat the evil through goodness and not become its tool. The real enemy is not the people of other communities, regions or religious but the real enemy is the evil, which must be defeated.
May Allah shower His mercy and make the Muslims a symbol of light, peace, love and harmony. May Allah forgive their sins and may they follow the real Islam as practiced by Prophet Muhammad (P.B.U.H.).

THE MEMORABLE LAST SERMON OF THE HOLY PROPHET (S.A.W.): MANKIND’S FIRST Magna Charta OF HUMAN RIGHTS

All praise is due to Allah, so we praise Him, and seek His pardon and we return to Him, We seek refuge from Allah from the evils of ourselves and from the evils consequences of our deeds.
When Allah guides aright, there is none to lead us astray; and there is none to guide him aright whom Allah leads astray, I bear witness that there is no God but Allah, the ONE, having no partner with him his is the so ever eighty and to him is due all praise. He grants life and causes death and is powerful over everything. There is no God but Allah, the ONE, he fulfilled his promise and granted victory of his bondsman, and he alone routed the confederates (of the enemy of Islam).
O people! Listen to my words, for I do not know whether we shall ever meet again and perform Hajj after this year.
O you people! Allah says:
“O mankind! Lo! We have created you male and female and have made you nations and tribes that you may know one another. Lo! The noblest of you in the sight of Allah is the best in conduct. There is no superiority for an Arab over a non-Arab and for an non-Arab over an Arab, or for the white over the black, or for the black over the white, except in God consciousness.
All mankind is the progeny of Adam and Adam was fashioned out of clay. Behold! Every claim of privilege, whether that of blood or property, is under my heels, except that of the custody of Ka’ba and supplying of water to the pilgrims. O people of Quraish don’t appear (on the Day of Judgment) with the burden of this world around your necks, whereas other people may appear (before the Lord) with rewards of the Hereafter. In that case I shall avail you naught against Allah.
Behold! All practices of the days of ignorance are remitted. The claim on blood I abolish is that of Ibn Rabiah b. Harith who was nursed in the tribe of Sa’ad and whom the Hudhayis killed.
All interest and usurious dues accruing from the times of Ignorance hereby stand wiped out. And the first amount of interest that I remit is that which Abbas B. Abdul Muttallib had to receive.
O people! Verily your blood, your property and your honor are sacred and inviolable until you appear before your Lord, as is the sacred inviolability of this day of yours, this month of yours (of Hajj), and this very town of yours (Makka).
Verily you will soon meet your Lord and you will be held answerable for your words and deeds, belief, faculties, potential feelings, ideas and intentions, because they are all in Allah’s knowledge and record.
O people! Verity you have got certain rights over your women and your women have certain rights over you. Treat women well, because they are like captive in your houses, possessing nothing for themselves, and you on your part, take him as deposit from Allah and permit yourselves the enjoyment of their persons by means of the word of Allah. Have therefore fear of Allah with regard to women. It is your right upon them to honor their conjugal rights, and not to commit acts of impropriety, which if they do, you are authorized by Allah to banish them to beds apart and scourge them, but not severely, and if they refrain and obey you, seek not a way against them and clothe and feed them properly.
Behold! It is not permissible for a woman to give anything from the wealth of her husband to anyone, but with his consent.
O people! Allah, the Most High, has ordained to every one his due share of inheritance. Hence there is no need of a special testament for an heir, save as laid down in the shariyah.
The child belongs to the marriage-bed and the violator of wedlock shall be stoned. And reckoning of their deeds rests with Allah. He who attributes his ancestry to other than his father or claims his clientship to other than his master, the curse of Allah is upon him.
All debts must be repaid, all borrowed property must be returned, gifts should be reciprocated and a surety must make good the loss to the assured.
He who has any trust with him, must return it to its owner on demand or otherwise. Nothing of his brother, particularly the orphan and the minor or insane, is lawful for a Muslim except what he himself gives willingly in sound mind and health.
Beware, no one committing a crime is responsible for it but himself, Neither the child is responsible for the crime of his father, nor the father is responsible for the of the child. No relationship of blood is of any avail.
O people, every Muslim are the bother of other Muslim, and all are knit in one brotherhood. Feed your slaves with such food as you yourself eat and clothe them with clothes that you wear yourself.
Take heed! Do not go astray after me and do not throttle one another’s necks.
Listen and obey your Ameer, even if he happens to be your mangled Abyssinian slave, provided he executes the Ordinance of Allah as given in the Quran.
O people! No Prophet would be raised after me and no new Ummah would be formed after you. I have left amongst you that which will never lead you astray, the Book of Allah, which if you hold fast, you shall never go astray. Do not transgress the limits set in the matter of religion, for it such transgression only that spelled ruin to many people before you.
Verily, the satan, who is your avowed enemy, is displeased at ever being worshipped in this land of yours, but if obedience in anything (short of worship) is expected, he will be pleased in matters you may be disposed to think as insignificant, so beware of this slinking whisperer who ever lurks in your heart.
Behold! Worship your Lord, offer five time Salat (prayer daily, observe one month fasts in the month of Ramadan every year, pay readily Zakat (poor-due) on your property and perform pilgrimage to Makka, which is made conditionally essential once in life, and obey your religious authorities and you will be admitted to the Paradise of Allah.
Let him that is present; convey it unto him who is absent. For, many people to whom the message is conveyed may be more mindful of it than the audience present here.
And if you were asked about me, what would you say? The audience answered with unanimous spontaneity:
We bear witness that you have conveyed the trust (of religion) and discharged your ministry of Apostle hood and looked to our welfare with munificence.
Thereupon Allah’s messenger (S.A.W.) lifted his forefinger towards the sky and then pointing towards the people said:
“ O LORD! BEAR WITNESS OWNTO IT”.
“ O LORD! BARE WITNESS UNTO IT”.
That Allah witnessed it and heard his prayer is evident form the fact that soon as he had finished his address of Farewell, the following Ayat was revealed.
“this day have i perfected your religion for you and completed my favours unto you, and have chosen for you as religion al-islam”. (mai’dah: 5:4)
On the 18th of “Safar” 11 Hijra, after his return from Makka, the Holy Prophet (S.A.W.) visited the graves of ‘Baqi’ ul Gharqad’ and prayed for the dead, as earlier he had prayed for the martyrs of “Uhad.’ Then he returned to the apartment of Hadrath Maimunah (R.A.) in state of high fever and failing health. He then called his wives and said: “In view of my failing health I am not in a position to pay visits to you in turn. If you agree I may be allowed to stay with Hadrath Ayishah (R.A.)” They unanimously agreed to his proposal. Feeble in health, unable to lead prayers, he commanded his most faithful companion. Hadrath Abu Bakr to lead the prayers during his illness. Hadrath Ayishah suggested that her father may burst with emotion, being tender hearted but at the insistence of the Prophet he was left with no choice but to lead the prayers, then the Holy Prophet said:
“O people! It has reached me that you are afraid of the approaching death of your Prophet. Has any previous Prophet lived forever among those to whom he was sent? So think not that I would forever live amongst you. Behold! I am about to go to my Lord. You too will go sooner or later. I instruct you to do good to the first emigrants and I recommend to the emigrants to do well among them. O people! Verily, sins deprive people of the blessings and bring about changes in their lot. When people are good, their rulers do well to them and when the people wrong doers, their rulers oppress them. There may be some amongst you whom I owe aught to anyone, here is my property, and he may take it. Know that among you the most faithful to me is he who has such a claim on me and then he either takes if from me or absolves me of it, so that I may meet my Lord after I have been absolved. Nobody should say: “I fear enmity and grudge of the Apostle of Allah”.
Inures no grudge towards anyone. These are the things, which are alien to my nature and temperament. I rather abhor them”.
On Saturday night his condition grew very precarious with high fever and acute pain. He addressed his beloved daughter Hadrath Fatima (R.A.) and his aunt Hadrath Safia thus:
O Fatimah! My daughter and thou Safiah. My aunt! Work you out that which shall please the Lord. For verily, I have no power with HIM to save you in any way.
Even in this serious illness, he recollected that some time he had given Hadrath Ayishah (R.A.) some gold coins. He asked her to give it in charity to the destitute, saying. “I do not wish to meet my Lord in this condition that material wealth is in my possession”.
He then prayed unto Allah:
“O Lord! Let my grave be not adopted as an idol. Allah has cursed those who have turned the graves of their Prophets into places of worship”.
On the 12th of Rabi’ul Awwal, 11 Hijra, his strength was rapidly sinking. He was resting on the pillow. Hadrath Ayishah (R.A.) lifted his head gently and placed it on her lap. Despite high fever and pain he appeared very calm and forbearing and repeated these words frequently:
“In the company of those on whom is the grace of allah. (4:69)
O Lord! I beseech thee; assist me in the agony of death”.
While he was breathing his last, he was recurrently saying:
“Lord! Grant me pardon, and join me to the Companionship on high. The most Exalted Companionship on high”.
Then finally his eyes opened widely and he said:
“Lord! Blessed is the Companionship on High”.
“May the Lord shower his choicest blessings on him, his family and his companions”.
Thus he breathed his last in the service to Allah and humanity in every moment of his life.
At Muhammad’s own death an attempt was made to deify him, but the man who was to become his administrative successor, (Hadrath Abu Bakr) killed the hysteria with one of the noblest speeches in religious history:
“ If there are any among you who worshipped Muhammad, he is dead, but if it is Allah you worshipped, He lives for ever”.
Then he announced:
“No Prophet dies but is buried where he dies”.
Accordingly his scared body was lowered in the grave dug in Hadrath Ayishah’s apartment only, which is within the four walls of the Masjid e Nabvi, in Madina.
On his death one more remarkably out standing ruling was given by Hadrath Ayishah, when his wives wanted to distribute amongst themselves the gardens he had left. She said:
“A Prophet has no heirs. All his wealth shall be gift to the poor”.
Over this, they all unanimously credited the accruing income from the gardens to BaitulMaal.
